The event opened at 6:30 for registration and from then, people just started rolling in until the walk started at 7:45. In between, there were quite a few booths from different sponsors including coffee and breakfast from Panera Bread as well as various other local organizations donating their time and efforts to the event including Wal-Mart and Walgreens. Free health evaluations were also given by the Western University Pharmacy students. The health evaluation included readings such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood glucose levels and Body Mass Index (BMI) readings.
The event itself started off great with live music from a local Huntington Beach band called the Union Hobos. Then it introduced two youth ambassadors with type 1 diabetes giving great words of encouragement and thanks to the crowd for their support. Afterwards, the band started jamming and sent off the first group of walkers around Knott’s Berry Farm.
